Fremantle

Revitalised. Proud. Diverse.

Known as ‘Freo’ by the locals, the vibrant city of Fremantle offers a rich history and a wonderful sense of community, combined with a relaxed lifestyle.

Located at the mouth of the Swan River on a series of limestone hills, Fremantle can easily access Perth’s CBD by car or direct train.  The Fremantle Harbour serves as the port of Perth and is a favourite cruise ship destination during the summer months.

To the Noongar people, Fremantle is ‘a place of ceremonies, significant cultural practices and trading.’  History abounds in this city, filled with evidence of maritime, convict and colonial times.

The city is home to the Western Australian Maritime Museum, the Fremantle Prison and Western Australia's oldest public building, the Roundhouse gaol (built around 1830). The Fremantle Arts Centre and The University of Notre Dame Australia offer more examples of historic buildings.

In contrast, the buzzing Fremantle Markets, the redeveloped Fishing Boat Harbour, lively bars and street cafés put this place very much in the modern era.  Also home to the Fremantle Dockers AFL team, the local community is diverse but united with pride in its beautiful city.
